Beloved Pittsburg Bookstore Begins a New Chapter Under New Name and Operator

Post Date:12/19/2025

PITTSBURG, CA – December 15, 2025

Pittsburg’s favorite bookstore is not closing—it’s evolving!  The Pittsburg Arts & Community Foundation (PACF) has approved a resolution to transition operations of the former Railroad Book Depot to Revision Publishing, LLC, ushering in a new era, a new name, and exciting programs that will keep Pittsburg reading and thriving. The new bookstore will be called RP Books.

Since 2010, Railroad Book Depot has been a cornerstone for literacy and cultural engagement in Pittsburg, offering free books, hosting book clubs, poetry readings, and family-friendly events. This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter.  One that promises to build on this strong foundation while introducing fresh ideas to keep the community inspired.

Revision Publishing, LLC, selected through a competitive process, brings a dynamic vision for the bookstore’s future. In addition to maintaining the bookstore’s welcoming atmosphere, the company plans to introduce author workshops, book fairs, publishing services, and expanded literacy programs.

"This partnership ensures that a vibrant hub for learning and creativity remains in Pittsburg,” said PACF Board Member and Pittsburg Mayor Dionne Adams. “We are excited to see RP Books, build on this legacy and bring new opportunities for avid readers and residents."

"We are honored to carry forward the legacy of Railroad Book Depot,” said CEO of Revision Publishing, LLC Akilah Trinay. “Our goal is simple: keep the heart of this bookstore beating while adding new ways for the community to connect, learn, and celebrate the written word. The bookstore isn’t going anywhere.  It’s evolving, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this next chapter."

To support this transition, PACF will provide financial incentives of up to $200,000 from reserve funds, tied to milestone achievements by RP Books. PACF will also sell its book inventory for $1, reinforcing its commitment to literacy and community enrichment.

What does this mean for Pittsburg?

  • The bookstore remains a resource.

  • More programs, more events, more reasons to visit.

  • Same location (485 Railroad Avenue), same love for books, just with new energy and ideas.
