FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PITTSBURG, CA – The City of Pittsburg is pleased to announce the launch of its Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Rebate Program, made possible through a grant from the Senate District 7 ADU Accelerator Program. This funding supports local efforts to increase housing opportunities and improve affordability across the City.
The ADU Rebate Program is now live, offering eligible property owners up to $15,000 in rebates for building new, qualifying ADUs. Higher incentives are available for deed-restricted units rented to low-income households, with rebate amounts based on the size of the unit. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning now through September 30, 2026, or until all funds are expended.
“ADUs are a practical solution to help meet the City’s housing goals, and we’re excited to offer financial incentives and design tools to support their development City-wide. ADUs have the potential to help increase housing supply, provide an affordable housing option for residents and their extended family, and allow those wanting to live independently yet close to family members or caregivers another option,” stated Mayor Jelani Killings. The City also sees benefits to homeowners by providing extra income and helping manage mortgage costs.
The City is also using a portion of the grant funding to develop additional Permit-Ready ADU Plans, expected to be released in late 2025. These free, pre-reviewed plans will help homeowners save on design costs and expedite the permitting process.
