FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PITTSBURG, CA – After nearly three decades of dedicated service to the City of Pittsburg, City Manager Garrett Evans has announced his retirement, effective September 4, 2025.
Mr. Evans has been a cornerstone of Pittsburg’s leadership team, serving in various roles since 1997, including Analyst, Economic & Redevelopment Coordinator, Director of Economic Development, Director of Redevelopment Agency, Director of Power, Assistant City Manager, and finally, City Manager for the past 6.5 years. During his tenure, Pittsburg has experienced remarkable growth in economic development, infrastructure improvements, and community services.
“Garrett’s commitment to Pittsburg has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Mayor Jelani Killings. “His steady leadership, deep knowledge of our community, and dedication to public service have guided Pittsburg through periods of growth, challenge, and change. We are grateful for his many contributions to our City.”
Among his many contributions to Pittsburg, Evans guided a successful public-private partnership on the $525 Million Trans Bay Cable project, a 53-mile high-voltage direct current transmission line delivering up to 40% of San Francisco’s energy from Pittsburg across the Bay to San Francisco, improving energy reliability for the entire Bay Area. Evans also played a pivotal role in the success of the Pittsburg Power Company, one of the few municipal utilities in the region. Both projects represent reliable long-term revenue sources in excess of $100 Million and have paved the way for a better quality of life in Pittsburg, achieving key community priorities like improved safety, local workforce development through Future Build, economic development, and various public infrastructure projects. In addition, Evans was instrumental in the revitalization of Old Town Pittsburg, expansion of waterfront amenities, and continuing high quality services through the COVID-19 global pandemic.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve the Pittsburg community alongside such a talented and dedicated team of employees, elected officials, and community partners,” said Evans. “Pittsburg, and Team Pittsburg, is a special place with special people. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together to build a stronger, more vibrant city.”
As City Manager Evans steps into retirement, the Pittsburg City Council will begin the process of selecting the next City Manager in the coming months, with plans for a smooth transition to ensure continued progress on key City initiatives.
