City of Pittsburg Mourns the Loss of Former Supervisor and Community Champion Federal D. Glover
PITTSBURG, CA — The City of Pittsburg is deeply saddened by the passing of Federal D. Glover, a beloved community leader, former Pittsburg City Council member and Mayor, and long-serving Contra Costa County Supervisor.
Born and raised in Pittsburg, Federal D. Glover dedicated his life to public service and to uplifting the community that shaped him. He was the first African American elected to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors in 2000, representing District 5 for 23 years until his retirement in 2024. Prior to that, he served with distinction on the Pittsburg City Council and as Mayor, leaving a lasting imprint on the city’s development, culture, and civic life.
“Federal Glover was more than a public official—he was a son of Pittsburg, a mentor, and a passionate champion for our community,” said Jelani Killings, Mayor of Pittsburg. “His vision helped transform our city and county, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
Throughout his career, Supervisor Glover championed issues critical to the residents of Pittsburg and beyond, including public health, environmental sustainability, racial equity, youth engagement, and infrastructure development. He co-founded the Contra Costa County Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice and spearheaded regional collaborations to expand healthcare access and economic opportunity.
The City of Pittsburg extends its heartfelt condolences to Supervisor Glover’s wife, their children, grandchildren, and the entire Glover family.
